My favourite time in my career was when I was case manager in the Department of Correctional Services (DCS) in St Paul. My career path changed dramatically when we had the opportunity to work a few hours, which eventually became a permanent position as a case manager.

When I first worked for the Minnesota Department of Corrections, the staff was keen to discuss the importance of teamwork. Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses, but we come together as a team that praises each other. I have been working in the department for 4 years and have found a new sense of purpose since I joined the department. Every day I meet new people, with whom I can work every day. In the more than 4 years I have worked in this department, I have been promoted to the Interstate Compact Unit, which oversees and monitors MN transfers throughout the state.

When I started, there was an adjustment period to become a corrections officer, but the training I received from the department helped me to get into my new role. Whatever job you find, don't forget the same feelings you once had. As soon as I went online, I realised that one of the most rewarding experiences of my life was being able to move straight into a full-time job at Saint Cloud.
